Milton Wong, PhD (Hon), CM, OBC Chairman

In addition to being a founder and major shareholder of Perceptronix, Milton Wong contributes his distinguished financial and business experience to the Company. He founded M. K. Wong & Associates in 1980, which was acquired by Hong Kong Shanghai Banking Corporation (“HSBC”) in 1996, promoting Dr. Wong to the Chairman of HSBC Asset Management Canada which manages $4.8 billion in assets.  Dr. Wong was the primary angel investor and major shareholder supporting ALI Technologies Inc. which was successfully grown and sold to McKesson Information Solutions Medical Imaging Group in 2002 for $530 million.  Dr. Wong is currently a Board member of Alcan Inc., Seaspan Corp. and Genome British Columbia.

Known for his extensive community involvement and philanthropy, he serves as a director on the Board of the Aga Kahn Foundation Canada, Canada-U.S. Fulbright Program, The Canadiana Fund, The Canadian Institute for Advanced Research, Pacific Salmon Endowment Fund Society, Genome BC, Mr. and Mrs. P.A. Woodward's Foundation, the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation, and Stem Cell Network. His wide participation in the life of Vancouver includes being founding chairman of the International Dragon Boat Festival. He is the founder and past-chairman of the Laurier Institution, a non-profit organization for advancing knowledge of the economic and social implications of cultural diversity. He was the co-chair of the BC Cancer Foundation Millennium Campaign and has been a key fundraiser for the Salvation Army, the Red Cross, Science World, SUCCESS and the YMCA.

Dr. Milton Wong received an honorary doctorate degree from Simon Fraser University (“SFU”) in British Columbia in 1999, where he served as Chancellor from 1999 to 2005. He is a recipient of the Order of Canada and the Order of British Columbia.  He has been given Vancouver City's Civic Award, a Distinguished Leadership and Honour Roll distinction from Maclean's Magazine, the Ernst & Young 2002 Entrepreneur of the Year Lifetime Achievement Award for his considerable achievements in business, and 2005 Brotherhood Interfaith Society Person of the Year.

 
John MacDonald, OC, PhD, FCAE, PEng

Dr. John MacDonald is co-founder, Chairman and CEO of Day4 Energy, a solar energy company dedicated to commercializing a new technology with the potential to make solar energy cost competitive with fossil fuel in generating electrical energy.

Dr. MacDonald co-founded MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd., serving as President and CEO until September 1982 and as Chairman from 1982 until 1998.  MacDonald Dettwiler, which started in Dr. MacDonald’s basement in Vancouver BC, has become the largest space company in Canada with annual sales exceeding 750 million dollars.  Dr. MacDonald has served on the board of directors of more than ten companies, and is currently a director of Analytical Spectral Devices Inc. of Boulder, Colorado and the British Columbia Discovery Fund Inc. of Vancouver, as well as Day4 Energy Inc. and Perceptronix.

Dr. MacDonald held professorships in electrical engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (“MIT”) and the University of British Columbia ("UBC") and earned several teaching awards. He has also been active in an advisory capacity to Federal and Provincial governments on: Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC); the Advisory Council to the Canadian Space Agency; the Canadian Defence Science Advisory Board; the Science Council of Canada; the National Research Council of Canada; the British Columbia Premier’s Advisory Council on Science and Technology; the National Advisory Board on Science and Technology; the Science Council of British Columbia; and the Sectoral Advisory Group on International Trade (Automotive and Aerospace Sector), NAFTA.  He led the industrial team that stimulated the formation of the Canadian Space Agency in 1989 and has also served on a number of advisory committees and boards of the US government in the field of Earth observation from space.

Dr. MacDonald is a registered Professional Engineer, a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (“IEEE”), a Founding Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering and a Fellow of the Canadian Aeronautics and Space Institute. Dr. MacDonald is a member of many learned societies and the recipient of numerous academic and business awards, including eight honorary doctorates from Canadian universities.  He was named an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1988. Dr. MacDonald was inducted into the Business Laureatres of British Columbia Hall of Fame in May, 2006.

Dr. MacDonald earned a Bachelor's degree with honours in Electrical Engineering from UBC and a Master's Degree and PhD in Electrical Engineering from MIT.

    
Sherri Magee, PhD

Dr. Magee has been an independent oncology researcher in the area of cancer survivorship and recovery for the past fifteen years.  She spent the last four years researching the process of recovery once treatment for cancer is finished; culminating in co-authoring the book entitled, Picking up the Pieces: Moving Forward after Cancer which was published in March, 2006.  She is also a regular lecturer at the UBC School of Rehabilitation Sciences.

She co-developed the first private practice cancer rehabilitation program, "Back on Track," and chairs their advisory board.  Dr. Magee challenged medical thinking and management of women recovering from breast cancer when she co-founded the "Abreast in a Boat" dragon boat team society. There are over 90 teams worldwide comprising women living with breast cancer who are spreading the message that "there is a full and active life after breast cancer."

She chaired the first successful "Moving Forward after Cancer" conference held in British Columbia in 2003 and is again chairing the follow-up conference to be held March 2006.  Dr. Magee has served as Executive Director of Hope House, a centre in Vancouver that provided psychological support to survivors and their families.  She has also served on numerous cancer advisory boards and committees.

Prior to earning her doctorate, Dr. Magee performed research and instruction on cancer care in Nairobi, Kenya.  She was also the first to be hired as a Palliative Care Unit Staff Physiotherapist at Vancouver General Hospital.

Dr. Magee earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Montana (Missoula), a Master’s Degree in Sports Medicine and a PhD in Interdisciplinary Studies from UBC.

      
Don Rix, MD, OBC

Dr. Donald B. Rix brings to Perceptronix’s board more than 40 years of experience with life sciences companies and medical teaching, research, and practice.  Dr. Rix is one of the owners and founders and is currently the Chairman of the Board of Directors of MDS Metro Laboratory Services, the largest independent community medical laboratory in British Columbia. He is also one of the owners and founders and is currently Chairman of Cantest Ltd. based in Vancouver.  He is a Board member of MDS Ventures Pacific Inc., QHR Technologies Inc., Reservlogic Corp. and other private Life Sciences Companies.

Dr. Rix received a Bachelor of Arts and his MD degree from the University of Western Ontario (“Western”), an honorary Diploma of Technology from the British Columbia Institute of Technology (“BCIT”), the degree of Doctor of Science, honoris causa from Western and a Fellowship in General Pathology (FRCP) Canada.

Dr. Rix is a recognized member of the medical profession, with fellowships in four medical colleges and societies. He is active in provincial and national medical associations, is a member of several B.C. research foundations, and director of the B.C. Children’s Hospital Foundation. He is a member of the Premier’s Technology Council, BC Medical Services Foundation and is Chair of Genome BC. He has served in various capacities at BCIT, SFU, UBC and is the Current Chair of the Board of Governors of the University of Northern BC.  

Dr. Rix is an active supporter of the arts community, donating millions of dollars for education, health and the arts. He has also earned numerous awards and honours, including the Order of BC. He recently received the Lifetime Leadership and Achievement Award from the BC Biotechnology Alliance for his contributions to the biotechnology sector and the Bill Thompson Award for similar achievement by the BC Technology Industries Association. Dr. Rix was inducted into the Business Laureates of British Columbia Hall of Fame in May, 2006.

Hugh Scott, MD, FRCP(C)
Dr. Scott is president and CEO of the Scarborough Hospital.  He has been a professor and researcher at McGill University and Université de Sherbrooke. His service to academia and the wider community has been extensive: Principal and Vice-Chancellor of Bishop’s University (1986-1995), Executive Director of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (1995-1998), Executive Director and CEO of McGill University Health Centre (1998-2004).
