David Hall - Chairman

Mr. Hall currently serves as CEO, President & Director of RepliCel Life Sciences a company developing an autologous cell-based procedure for the treatment of androgenetic alopecia (pattern baldness) and general hair loss in men and women. Prior to this position, Mr. Hall held executive management roles, for over a decade, at Angiotech Pharmaceuticals Inc. including Chief Financial Officer, Chief Compliance Officer and Senior Vice President of Government & Community Relations. He also served as the company’s Corporate Secretary and Treasurer. Mr. Hall is highly committed to governmental policy issues related to the biotech industry. He is a past Chairman Life Sciences BC and currently serves as a director of Advantage BC.  He has served as the Chairman of the Biotech Industry Advisory Committee to the BC Competition Council and as a member of the BC Task Force on PharmaCare.  Mr. Hall is also a member of the University of British Columbia’s Tech Equity Investment Committee and is a director and Chairman of the Audit Committee of GLG Lifetech Corporation.

 

 

Mike Harcourt

As former premier of British Columbia, Mayor of Vancouver and City Councillor, Mike Harcourt helped British Columbia earn its reputation as one of the most liveable, accessible and inclusive places in the world.  His focus on conservation and sustainable development – and his resolve to contribute to the transformation of cities and communities has played a significant role in promoting quality of life for those in Canada and abroad.

After stepping down from politics, he was appointed by the Prime Minister to serve as a member of the National Round Table on the Environment and Economy, where he served on the Executive Committee and Chaired the Urban Sustainability Program.  He was a Federally appointed B.C. Treaty Commissioner and was Chair of the Prime Minister’s Advisory Committee for Cities and Communities.

Mike Harcourt is Chair of University of British Columbia’s Regional Sustainability Council for sustainability initiatives, as well as Associate Director of the Centre for Sustainability Continuing Studies at U.B.C.  In addition to acting as Chairman of Quality Urban Energy Systems for Tomorrow (QUEST),  he chairs the Canadian Electricity Association’s Sustainable Electricity Program Advisory Panel.  He is also the lead faculty in United Way’s Public Policy Institute.

Jas Hayre

Jas Hayre joined Abacus in 2011 as Managing Director of Abacus’ Structure Financial Solutions Group. Jas is a chartered accountant and has over 20 years of experience in public and private practice advising clients on cross-border tax issues. Prior to joining Abacus he had his own international tax consulting firm, C2 Global Solutions, and was a tax partner and leader of the international tax services group for Ernst & Young, LLP in Vancouver for over 10 years.

Mr. Hayre has advised clients on minimizing their overall global effective tax rates resulting in very substantial savings. His clients have ranged from owner-managed private corporations to Fortune 100 companies. Jas’s experience includes a wide variety of industries, including energy and oil, pharmaceuticals, forest products, technology, manufacturing, metal and mining, real estate and financial services industries.

Mr. Hayre has held leadership and advisory roles across the spectrum of company sizes and stages from private to publicly held companies inclusive.

Bob Rai

A graduate of the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Biochemistry (1991) and Pharmaceutical Science (1995), Bob is an entrepreneur with 15 years experience in operating a string of Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy Outlets in Greater Vancouver, Canada.

In 1998, he co-founded and revolutionized, along with his partners, the online pharmacy business to the USA. The sales and distribution of prescription medicines online surpassed unprecedented industry growth and as other operators followed suit, the business model became a $2billion dollar industry across Canada.

Bob had served as President of the Philippines Canada Trade Council (PCTC) in 2006-2007 and held the position of Vice-President from 2004-2006. As President of PCTC, he led, on 24-26 January 2007, a successful Trade Mission to Manila, in cooperation with the Canadian Embassy in the Philippines and various private and government organizations, that has gained the official endorsements from His Excellency Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Honorable Premier Gordon Campbell of British Columbia and Minister of International Trade and Industry of Canada, David Emerson. Bob also sits on various community boards. He is President of the Victoria Drive Business Improvement Association (2007-present), he sits on the board of directors of the South Hill Fraser Street Business Improvement Area and South Vancouver Neighborhood House. An active fundraiser for cancer, his company, The Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy's first and 2nd annual "Golf for a Cure" events have raised almost $75,000.00, from which proceeds have gone to the B.C. Children's Hospital for finding a cure for cancer in children. Bob is also very keen in municipal, provincial and federal politics, helping to fundraise and gather support for politicians seeking elective office.
