Our quantitative cytology laboratory is the first of its kind and offers the physician community important new diagnostic information for improved early detection, diagnosis and prognosis of cancer.
Cancer is a disease characterized by abnormal DNA and gross DNA abnormality (aneuploidy). Quantitative cytology analysis via image cytometry (computer-controlled high-resolution microscopy) can detect and measure these DNA ploidy (large-scale DNA) changes and indicate whether a lesion is cancerous or pre-cancerous. Furthermore, studies have shown that patients with diploid cancers (cancers with normal DNA content) in various tissues have longer cancer-free intervals, longer survival and better response to hormone therapy than those with aneuploid cancers.
– Early detection test for oral cancer
OralAdvance™ is a new test for assessing the malignant potential of oral lesions. With recent advances in visualization techniques for the oral cavity, dentists are encountering more suspicious lesions. OralAdvance™, with its soft cyto-brush sample collection kit, provides dentists with a new option for assessing these lesions when biopsy is not warranted or possible. It provides an objective measure of gross DNA abnormality that can give additional information about the pre-malignant or malignant nature of a lesion. For more information or to order call 1-888-629-8779 or visit www.oraladvance.com.
– Risk assessment test for lung cancer
LungSign™ is the first test to market to offer a safe, virtually painless and convenient method of assessing a patient’s risk of lung cancer. It is based on an automated quantitative cytology analysis of sputum. LungSign™ also serves as a highly relevant and useful complement to current radiological diagnostic methods (e.g. CT). Quantitative Cytology Services
Quantitative cytology provides physicians with improved cytopathology assessment based on an objective measure of large-scale DNA abnormality that can indicate precancerous or cancerous changes. These improvements are in 2 major areas:
- It improves the sensitivity of conventional cytological analysis in many tissues, including offering improvement where cytological findings are non-specific (atypical)
- It provides physicians with better prognostic information as diploid or tetraploid tumours are, in general, less aggressive than aneuploid tumours and diploid pre-cancerous lesions are less likely to progress
Our service utilizes advanced, proprietary cytometry technology and assessment by certified cytotechnologists and cytopathologists. Any cytological specimen can be analyzed using quantitative cytology including:
- liquid-based cytology samples
- direct smears
- cytospin preparations
- touch preparations
- fine needle aspiration specimens
- Thinprep® and other monolayer preparations
Our services are available to both physician and research communities. Please call us today (1-800-629-8779) for more information. We look forward to being your partner for better patient care.
